Hattie Grünewald
I represent commercial and upmarket fiction, including book club fiction, crime and thriller, historical and contemporary fiction, and some non-fiction in the areas of lifestyle and personal development.
I am currently open to commercial and upmarket fiction submissions with a strong pitch, believable characters and an engaging voice. At the moment, I’m particularly keen to see novels for the book club market with a conversation-starting topics with a “you need to read this” quality. These may include captivating and multi-layered family dramas, high concept love stories and classic storytelling. If it’s sweeping, romantic and timeless, I’d love to see it.
I represent commercial women’s and romantic fiction and at the moment I’m on the look out for sexy and funny rom-coms, the tropier the better!
In historical fiction, I’m looking for unusual, escapist settings or characters that are often overlooked by history – and if they feature a mystery or a love story, even better.
In crime and thriller, I’m looking for ambitious, immaculately-plotted detective fiction, high-concept or puzzle-y mysteries and humorous yet clever cosy crime. Regional crime stories are always high on my wish list, as well as a strong sense of character and novels that use the crime genre to explore broader social issues. I’m really keen to see crime novels with series potential.
My favourite authors are Tana French, Elizabeth Gilbert, Liane Moriarty and Margaret Atwood. I’ve recently enjoyed reading:
- THE PAPER PALACE by Miranda Cowley Heller
- TOMORROW AND TOMORROW AND TOMORROW by Gabrielle Zevin
- IF WE WERE VILLAINS by M.L. Rio
- THE RACHEL INCIDENT by Caroline O’Donoghue
- DETRANSITION, BABY by Torrey Peters
- THE THURSDAY MURDER CLUB by Richard Osman
I am always looking for books from marginalised authors. I am interested in LGBTQ+ stories and books that aren’t afraid to call themselves feminist. I am always keen to see books about mental health, as well as books by disabled or chronically ill authors.
I do not represent children’s fiction, science fiction, fantasy, horror, action thrillers, sport books, poetry, short stories, or books with talking animals.
