Claire Barker, author of the “funny and tender” (The Metro) Knitbone Pepper series, has won the Simply Books Bookfactor Award 2017 for Knitbone Pepper Ghost Dog.

The Bookfactor awards are run by Simply Books independent bookshop, and give children across ten Stockport schools the chance to read and to vote for their favourite shortlisted title. Winners are then announced at the children’s very own award ceremony, alongside performances based on their favourite books.

Knitbone Pepper is a friendly ghost dog, haunting the crumbling Starcross Hall with a gaggle of other ghostly pets. But his beloved owner Winnie is missing him. Can the ghostly gang come up with a plan to help Winnie see Knitbone again?

Knitbone Pepper Ghost Dog was published by Usborne in August 2015, and the series has since spanned a further two books (Knitbone Pepper and the Last Circus Tiger, Knitbone Pepper and a Horse Called Moon). Translation rights have been sold in eight territories, and the series is “spookily” illustrated by Ross Collins (lovereading4kids).

Claire is currently working on a new series of stories for children.
