Harry Potter and the Cursed Child wins eight WhatsOnStage Awards
The stage play of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, based on an original new story by J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany, won a record breaking eight WhatsOnStage Awards on the 19th February 2017 – the most awards ever won by a play.
The WhatsOnStage Awards are the only major UK theatre awards where both the nominated shortlist and the final award recipients are voted for by theatregoers.
The play, which opened last summer, won Best Lighting (Neil Austin), Best Set Design (Christine Jones), Best Actor in a Play (Jamie Parker), Best Video Design (Finn Ross and Ash Woodward), Best New Play, Best Direction (John Tiffany), Best Supporting Actor in a Play (Anthony Boyle) and Best Supporting Actress in a Play (Noma Dumezweni).
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is the first official Harry Potter story to be presented on stage, and begins nineteen years after the events of the final Harry Potter book. It is currently sold out until May 2018. The script book of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child was published in June 2016, in conjunction with the launch of the play, and was the bestselling book of 2016.
