Fantastic Beasts surpasses $800million in box office takings
The film Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, J.K. Rowling’s screenwriting debut, was released to audiences worldwide on Friday 18th November 2016. Marking the introduction to a new era of J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World, the film has crossed the $800million mark in global box office sales to date, with the biggest openings ever recorded for the Wizarding World franchise in China and South Korea.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is to be the first installment in a new series of films inspired by the Hogwarts textbook of the same name used by Harry Potter and his peers. The new and original story follows the textbook’s author, Magizoologist Newt Scamander – played by Eddie Redmayne – as he negotiates the wizarding and No-Maj worlds of 1920s New York.
In conjunction with the release of the film, the original screenplay of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them was published, and has topped bestseller lists worldwide.
