The Legend of Podkin One-Ear, written by Kieran Larwood and illustrated by David Wyatt, has been named as the Waterstones Children’s Book of the Month for June 2017. Podkin has been hailed as a “great bit of storytelling” by Lovereading4kids, and as a “warm family story of love and loyalty and standing up for what you believe in” by Books for Keeps.

Published by Faber & Faber in October 2016, Podkin One-Ear tells the fantasy adventure story of Podkin, the eldest son of a rabbit warrior chieftain. Podkin knows that one day it will be up to him to lead his warren, but for now, he’s quite happy to laze around annoying his older sister Paz, and playing with his baby brother Pook. Then their home is brutally attacked, and the young rabbits are forced to flee. The terrifying Gorm are on the rampage, and no one and nowhere is safe. With danger all around them, Podkin must protect his family, uncover his destiny, and attempt to defeat the most horrifying enemy rabbitkind has ever known.

Previously the winner of the Blue Peter Book Award 2017 for Best Story for Podkin One-Ear, Kieran Larwood was also the recipient of the 2011 Times Chicken House Children’s Fiction competition with his debut novel Freaks. Podkin One-Ear is to be published in the United States in September 2017 by the late Terry Pratchett’s editor Anne Hoppe. Rights to Podkin have so far been sold in five territories.

Waterstones will be exclusively selling their own edition of the book, illustrated by Fernando Juarez.
