Wildlife and sport played a big part of Steve’s childhood, and his local nature reserves and coastline served as positive escapes from a spinal cord injury in 2005 which left him tetraplegic and paralysed from the chest down. He would take himself off for hours to escape the noise that surrounded him at home with his new life in a wheelchair. He was also introduced to wheelchair rugby and instantly hooked. After a long and devoted sporting career, he progressed from club level to playing for country, and, ultimately London 2012 Paralympic captain.

Since his time as Paralympic Captain, Steve does everything possible to help others better themselves. As a coach and mentor, he supports and challenges individuals, schools, collages and businesses to think differently. The work varies from assisting individuals in overcoming adversity, physical or mental barriers to challenging talented professionals to hone their focus and resolve training issues to achieve the best in their field.

Steve is also a television presenter working on events such as The Olympics, Paralympics, Invictus games, the marathon and Wimbledon. His understanding of our natural world paired with his enthusiasm for our wildlife also means he works on shows such as Springwatch, Countryfile, Escape to the country, Blue planet UK and others.

Steve has been voted in the top 100 most influential people with a disability, won the RTS best new on screen talent award, been made honorary freeman of the borough, and he is an RSPB ambassador, amongst other things.
